Webinar: Denkfouten in ons forensisch werk: hoe ontstaan ze en wat kunnen we eraan doen?

The impact of bias on human information processing is a well-established finding in psychology. For example, numerous empirical studies have repeatedly shown that people tend to select and interpret information in such a way that it confirms their prior assumptions. Similar empirical findings can be observed in the field of forensic psychological assessments, which underscores the need to counteract bias.

In the first part of the webinar, Assistant Professor Verena Oberlader will explain the basics of bias. She will present both theoretical concepts and empirical findings that illustrate the influence of bias on information processing, especially in the context of forensic psychological assessments.

We will then discuss whether the webinar participants recognize bias (risks) in their own work and what measures could be taken to counteract them. Building on this, Assistant Professor Verena Oberlader will give an overview of the current state of research on debiasing strategies and present empirically based approaches that participants can apply to their own work.

Verena Oberlader (onderzoekster aan de Universiteit Mainz, Duitsland) doet, in samenwerking met Bruno Verschuere, onderzoek naar hoe denkfouten in ons forensisch psychologisch werk kunnen insluipen, en wellicht belangrijker, wat daaraan te doen is.
